]]><![CDATA[Lacquerware plate]]>Sun, 06 Nov 2016 04:00:00 GMThttps://www.hiromiceramics.com/blog/lacquerware-plateWhen I went back to Japan this summer, my friend gave us a wonderful gift which is the lacquerware plates.
They are great size for the desserts, and it has a dent for the cups.
We don't have good cups along with these plates, so I made them.
They are red lacquerware and have some waves with carving, so I was thinking that I like to put some red
and waves on the cups.

今年の夏、日本に一時帰国した際にお友達から素敵な漆塗りのお皿をいただきました。
デザートにとてもよいサイズで、カップを置けるように窪みが付いています。
このお皿に合うようなカップがうちにはなかったので作ることに。
お皿は赤色の漆塗りで木彫りによって波打ったデザインになっているので、そのイメージに合ったカップを
作りたかったのです。

They are alright, but the little lower cups are better for these plates, I think.
これはこれでいいけれど、もう少し低めのカップの方がしっくり来るかも？

陶器セールのお知らせです。
今月、９月２４日（土）１０時から５時、VA州ViennaのMeadowlark Gardensにて
ローカルアーティストによるセールがあります。
１５人以上のローカルアーティストが参加しますが、（もちろん私も参加します）
ピクニックできる場所もあったり、散策したりと楽しめる場所でもあります。
セール場所はライラッックパビリオンでビジターセンターに向かって左奥にあります。

I went to camping for 3 days to Shenandoah next day right after I arrived here, so I was back
to the studio yesterday, and started making some plates from today.
I am BACK!!!!!
Yesterday was "Not feel like making" day, so I just loaded my big pieces that I made before
I go to Japan.
They are completely dry, of course, so I checked and sanded them, then put them in the kiln.

１ヶ月と少しの日本滞在から１週間前に戻ってきました。
到着の次の日から３日間、シャナンドーにキャンプに行っていたので、昨日からスタジオに復帰し、
今日は幾つかお皿を作ってきました。
戻ってきたぞ〜！

昨日は初日ということもあり、気が乗らない日だったので日本帰国前に作っていった大物たちの
窯入れをしました。　もちろん、すべて完全に乾燥していたので全体をチェックし、ヤスリを軽くかけ
素焼きを開始。

And today, I started making some ginkgo leaf plates for a starter.
I've been thinking to make these for a long time, so I have a template ready to use.
I'm planning to make these plates for both cone 6 and 10 firing.

今日は手始めとしてイチョウ型のお皿をいくつか作ってきました。
前から作ろうと思っていたのでテンプレートはだいぶ前に作ってあったのでした。
このイチョウ型のお皿は電気窯で酸化焼成、ガス窯の還元焼成の両方で焼いてみようと思っています。

clean it afterwards.
I made four of the flower vases this time, two vertical ones and two horizontal ones.
エクストゥルーダーを使う時には一度にまとめて作ります。　
何故ならエクストゥルーダーは使った後の掃除が大変だから。笑
今回は４つの花器を作ってみました。　２つは縦系、もう２つは横系のもの。

I tried to use the natural shapes from the extruder as much as I can, and then add little bit
altering, like twisting.
なるべくエクストゥルーダーから出てきたままの自然な形を使うように心がけています。
その後、少し手を加えてひねったりもしています。

I will go back to Japan for one month till mid August, so these vases will be finished
on beginning of September.
８月半ばまでの１ヶ月、日本に帰国するのでこの花器が出来上がるのは９月上旬になります。

and the reception will be on next Wednesday, June 22, from 6pm.
This year, my two pieces of the wave lamp are on the show, and I'd like to show
some pictures in this blog since the studio gallery has full of light so you cannot see
what is look like in the dark.

３回目のなる”Flights of Fancy" ショー。　今月６日から展示されていますが、そのレセプションが
来週水曜日、６月２２日、６時からあります。
今年はウェーブランプを２種類、庭に合ったものを出させていただいております。
残念ながらスタジオの照明が明るいのでライトを点けてもよく分からないのでブログでその様子を
ご紹介したいと思います。

This is the 3rd annual "Flights of Fancy" exhibit, the potters and printmakers at Lee Art Center
are presenting their arts inspired by the bee and butterfly garden at LAC.
Two of my works are on the show, and the opening reception will be June 22, 6-9pm

I like to introduce a new great addition to my cupcake series, it's "Salt & Pepper Shaker Set".
When I've participated the craft show in DC, one of my customer gave me the idea making salt & pepper
with cupcake series.
I didn't take it seriously when I heard and I was forgetting day by day.
After a year later, it came up in my mind suddenly.
Since then, I considered the structure, ordered the rubber stopper, and let's make!!!
It's very fun to think those things.

新しくカップケーキシリーズに加えた、”塩コショウセット”をご紹介します。
私がワシントンDCのクラフトショーに参加した時、お客様の一人が「カップケーキで塩コショウセットを作ったら？」と。
その時は真剣に受け取ってなかったので、日に日にそのことは忘れていきました。
でもその１年後にふと思い出しました。
作るとなると、すぐに構造を考え、ゴム栓を購入し、いざ作成。
こういう時間がとっても楽しい。
